There is some exciting news for real deal soccer fans in New York and its surrounding areas. The New York Times tells us that this summer Manchester City and Liverpool will play each other in a preseason tournament. This is huge news, as we Americans don’t always get the chance to see these top European soccer teams play.
In addition to these teams being in New York, there will be several other incredible European soccer teams and clubs to grace the United States during this multicity preseason tournament, as they will also be playing in Charlotte, Miami, Phoenix, Denver, Washington, Chicago, Dallas, Minneapolis, Philadelphia and Pittsburgh.
While Manchester City was here last year, Liverpool hasn’t been to North America since 2012, and even then, they did not come to New York. Other teams joining Manchester City and Liverpool are the one and only Manchester United, who have not been here since 2011, the Italian Giants A.C. Milan, Roma and Internazionale , Real Madrid and Olumpiakos of Greece.
Each team’s roster is dependent upon the World Cup this year. Many of these teams have qualified to play in the World Cup and it does not end until July 13th. The International Champions Cup, preseason tournament, is from July 26th to August 4th. Some of these teams played in America last year and many of them are ecstatic to be back. The teams and players who have not been here ever or in a long time, are equally as excited to come to America to play for their fans here. This will be an exciting time for European soccer and Americans rooting for them.
